Feeling the call to ministry from childhood, in 1934 he started the First Pentecostal church of God and 23rd and Annie Baxter in Joplin, now one of the largest churches in the movement (renamed Joplin Family Worship Center).
He served as District Secretary-Treasurer for the South Central District from 1938-1942, when he was elected District Superintendent. He was serving as Assistant General Superintendent when he helped secure the first site for a headquarters in Joplin.
He concluded his active ministry in California.
